Day Three - From Here to There

Today is going to be a pretty easy day! I will tell you how to get your designs from the computer to the embroidery machine. It all just depends on what kind of equipment and software you own and what that equipment and software can allow you to do.

Some machines can be hooked up directly to the computer via USB cord, while other mchines require that you save your designs a certain way in a certain format before bringing it to the machine.

Let's back up a bit and start out with where to purchase designs.  There are many sources to purchase designs! You will be happy to know that you can find a design for any project you need, and if you cannot find a particular design, you can have one custom digitized.

Great stock design digitizers can be found all over the internet.  My biased favorite is Punchwork Studio  LOL, however, I encourage you to check out many of my other favorite places such as Digitizers World, Adorable Affordable Designs Mall and Embroidery Library.  You can find designs all over the Internet.  I advise you to be cautious though.  Please be wary of illegal pirated designs and copyright infringments.  Most website sellers have a featured called Instant Download.  This means that as soon as you pay for you design, you are immediately given a download link to download your designs.  How do you do this?  Well, first you will need to either use Windows zip software, or products like Win Zip etc.  Unzip the designs and save them on your computer.  Later you can burn them a cd if you prefer to have a backup copy.  You may also choose to purchase the CD or card too.  If you choose to do that, then the seller will mail you your designs.

So, you have a design that you are ready to stitch out.  If your design is on a CD, then you load the cd into the computer.  You can now go in different paths here.  If you have the ability to get designs to your machine via USB cord, then you can send the design right to the machine.  If you do not have the ability to do this, then click on your CD drive and then open the file that your design is under in the format you use for you machine (pes, hus etc).  Once you have your design opened in your software, you can make any edits or color changes that you need to make and save the changes. If your machine takes a floppy disc like the Designer 1 machines, then you will need to save your design to a floppy via software and then take that to the machine.  If your machine takes the small memory cards, then you will need a reader/writer box to do that if your original design is on your computer.  Some designs come on the memory cards and in that case, just insert the memory card into the machines card slot.  If your design is on the computer, or cd, then lets explore using the reader/writer box next.

There are many brands of reade/writer boxes.  Find one that suits your machine and software.  Some are machine brand specific (pe design box or Husqvarna box). Many are general and not machine brand specific such as the Amazing Box, Ultimate Box etc.  Ask your dealer to demonstrate these for you and show you how to use them.  In general, you will open the software that goes to your Amazing Box (in this example) and follow your manual's instructions.  The basic steps are to select the design you want and bring it in (reading) and then inserting your memory card into the box and save it to the memory card (writing).  Now take your memory card to the machine.  A blank memory card comes with these reader/writer boxes so you can read and write designs to them over and over again and re-use it.

Another way to get the design to the machine is to save it to a USB flash drive/memory stick.  Simply go to MY COMPUTER and find your design and right click the design and then click SEND TO and then send it to the drive for you USB memory stick (make sure the memory stick is in your computer first).
