What is Digitizing (Manual Punch)?

Digitizing (Punching) is the process of converting artwork (hand drawn, mouse drawn, photograph, clipart, jpeg, bitmap, or vector) into an embroidery stitch file to then be embroidered onto fabric. In more technical terms, it is the process of converting artwork into data containing commands that tell an embroidery machine frame how to move through the machine operating system. From our research, we found that the word Punching comes from the older jacquard embroidery machines. The code that tells the machine how and where to move came from a tape that was punched with holes. These holes were the code (instructions) for the machine to follow. Many digitizers started off this way in the past and have since made the move to the current way of using digitizing software and graphics tablets instead of tapes. With all of the new software products on the market, we are now able to choose from different methods of digitizing.  There are two basic methods of digitzing.  Autodigitizing and manual punching of present day.  The manual punching of present day allows the digitizer to make the decisions on pathing, fills, etc instead of letting the software program automatically make those decisions. We prefer the manual punch method over autodigitizng to better place our stitches, control design path, underlay, density, stitch direction, stitch length, patterns, outlines, and other various parameters in accordance with the customer's needs. All digitizers have their own unique style of interpreting artwork and pathing the stitches.  Please work closely with a digitizer to ensure that you get what you need.

We do our best to control jump stitches, trims, color changes, density, underlay, and the stitch count. We verify our designs with stitch outs to ensure quality control checks are in place.  We verify and test sew on a fabric that most closely matches what you will be sewing on. All designs are verified on a single head/six needle embroidery machine.  We use Embird Studio for digitizing. Most digitizing is done in house to save time and money for our customers.  On occasion we may have outside contractors aid us in serving you to meet deadlines, large orders, etc.  We take care in working with reputable well known contractors when and if the need arises.
